Firebase Dynamic Links alternative
Firebase Dynamic Links has shut down. Your links don’t have to.
CodeOnAir AppLinks do what Dynamic Links did — open the app, fall back to the store, and carry the link through the install — and you can import your existing links from a CSV file.
The move
Four steps, most of them copy and paste.
- 1Create a URL prefixPick yourapp.codeonair.com or connect your own domain, and enter your app’s bundle ID, team ID, package name and SHA-256 fingerprint.
- 2Import your linksExport your Dynamic Links from Firebase as CSV and import the file into the URL prefix. Rows that can’t be imported are listed with the reason.
- 3Swap the SDKReplace the Firebase SDK with CodeOnAir’s for React Native, Android or iOS. Deep links and deferred deep links arrive in one callback.
- 4Ship and shareRelease the app update, then share your new links. The dashboard checks that your app and domain are set up to open them.
What carries over
Everything you used Dynamic Links for.
- Universal Links on iOS and App Links on Android
- Deferred deep linking: the link’s path and parameters after a fresh install
- Store fallbacks, or your own fallback URL per platform
- Social previews for links shared in chats and feeds
- Short links on your own domain, created from the dashboard or the REST API
- Click, install and open analytics on paid plans
Moving from Firebase
Do my old page.link URLs keep working?
No — page.link domains belonged to Firebase. Importing recreates your links on your CodeOnAir URL prefix with the same paths, so update the places you share them, and point any custom domain you used at CodeOnAir.
What does the import keep?
Each link's deep link URL (its path and parameters), the iOS and Android fallback settings, and the social preview title, description and image.
Do I need to change my app?
Yes: replace the Firebase Dynamic Links SDK with the CodeOnAir SDK and add your URL prefix to Associated Domains (iOS) and the intent filter (Android). The dashboard shows the exact lines for your app.
